Dear Dr. Costello:
Thanks for sending me %2Census-Based Education and its Value
in the National Planning Effort%1.
It seems to me that the next step in mechanization will be
to ask the Census Bureau to keep the data in on-line disk files
accessible by telephone and by various digital networks from anywhere
in the country.
Do you think it's too late to try to persuade them to do
that with the 1980 Census? The actual cost of a very large file
for this purpose, even if bought from IBM, would be less than
$3,500,000 for about 4.7 x 10%512%1 bits - if I remember correctly.
